About ”The Residence”…
The Residence Retirement Center Inc. was founded by Phyllis Richards in 1977. Phyllis had an overall goal in mind, providing outstanding professional service/programs, and creating an evironment within the facility for each resident to become part of a much larger group or family, which in turn would make up “The Residence.” In 1986 The Residence became the first facility in Polk County licensed as a mental health assisted living facility.

The campus is located in a quiet community in Lakeland, Florida on a half circle drive with 10 seperate houses. Our residents
participate in many different programs developed by the Peace River Center. A partial list includes the gateway program, club success, and a program called the Drop in Center. All of these programs listed above are designed specifically for mental health clients.
Professional care provided by The Residence Retirement Center.
The Residence Retirement Center primary focus is providing the highest professional recovery program, and also making sure it is convenient for each and every resident. This is why we have teamed up with the doctors from Consult Care, Inc. The doctors visit the facility weekly for psychiatric sessions and once a month an entire medical team is assembled on campus to address any and all regularly scheduled and unscheduled medical concerns for the residents. The doctors work with our staff to provide the best possible care for the residents of the facility. Peace River Center provides an overlay program once a week that offers group therapy.
Daily scheduled activities and holiday parties provided by the staff.
The Residence provides optional activities daily Monday through Friday for approximately 2 hours a day. We offer a variety
of activities which are extremely popular and allow everybody to participate. These activities are centered around the group and allow for the residence to visit with one another while having a lot of fun in the process. We schedule a monthly birthday party to celebrate everyone who is having a birthday for that month. Throughout the year we also have themed holiday parties so everyone can celebrate the holidays with a party.
What does the future look like for “The Residence?”
Still to this day many of the former residents return to visit the staff they consider family to catch up and share life experiences. We feel we have accomplished our mission and continue to develop these life long relationships still today for the new residence choosing to become part of the family here at “The Residence.” Due to the popularity of our program we are considering expanding in the future. But for right now we are happy with our size and our close extended family that was ultimately created out of a goal to help one person at a time.
